Ohio Jury Trial Advisory Group - Report & Recommendations

While the duration and reach of the COVID-19 pandemic remains largely speculative, consensus within the Ohio legal community is that jury trials must proceed when (1) deemed essential; (2) they can be conducted in compliance with best medical practices; and (3) they are able to honor the fundamental rights of all parties to the judicial process.

On May 12, 2020, as the leader of an advisory group representing more than 50,000 legal professionals, I submitted a report to Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor providing specific recommendations as to how Ohio can safely resume jury trials. Among those who contributed to the report were civil plaintiffs’ lawyers, civil defense lawyers, prosecutors, criminal defense lawyers, bailiffs, court reporters, sheriff’s deputies, juvenile practitioners and clerks of court.

Thank you to the hundreds of CMBA members who shared their feedback. Your input has never been more important. I hope you will now take the time to read the full report HERE.

Stay healthy.

Local Court Response to COVID-19

The CMBA serves dozens of regional courts, each with its own response to the COVID-19 emergency. We will post major updates received from the courts but in a constantly changing situation, your best source for updated information is the individual court. Here is a list of links to those courts. If you have additional updates or information that’s important to the legal community, email communications@clemetrobar.org.
