In 2015, the University of California - Hastings published a groundbreaking study called Disruptive Innovations: New Models of Legal Practice. Among the many firms singled out as examples of those new models were Tucker Ellis and Charna Sherman. A third, Thompson Hine, has employed equally innovative work with its QuickLaunch program, among others. As our profession continues to evolve, we’ve been fortunate to have these disruptors right here in our back yard. Join Alex Gertsburg of the Gertsburg Law Firm, chair of the CMBA’s Legal Innovator Committee, as he leads the panel in both presentation and interactive Q&A on current and future changes in the practice of law.

Mr. Gertsburg has been in private practice for over seventeen years. The
first half of his career was spent working for two large regional
business law firms – Roetzel & Andress and Calfee, Halter &
Griswold. There he represented private and publicly- traded companies
and non-profit organizations of all sizes, as well as their owners, in litigation along the entire spectrum of business disputes: commercial and contract, real estate,
shareholder and partnership, broker-dealer, employment, unfair
competition, and many others. In civil bench and jury trials and before
arbitration panels, Mr. Gertsburg has spent his career zealously

Joseph J. Morford, Managing Partner, Tucker Ellis
In addition to his firm leadership role, Joe maintains an active
practice focused on the representation of major corporations in complex
mass tort, business litigation, and product liability matters both in
Ohio and in courtrooms throughout the United States.
A true believer in (and frequent commentator on) non-hourly fee
arrangements, Joe’s results-driven approach provides clients with
predictability and cost savings by reducing needless motion practice,
discovery, and work on client files. His focus is always on
understanding how the litigation at hand impacts the client’s business
as a whole, and on preparing his matters efficiently for trial, which
interestingly often leads to more prompt and favorable settlements for
our clients. This approach has lead him to twice be named Lawyer of the
Year in Cleveland, Ohio, once for Mass Tort Litigation and once for
Class Action Litigation, and to regularly be named an Ohio Litigation
Star by Benchmark Litigation, an Ohio Super Lawyer®, and included on the list of The Best Lawyers in America®.
Charna E. Sherman is founder, sole shareholder and inspirational leader
of Charna E. Sherman Law Offices Co., LPA. While based in Cleveland,
Ohio, she recently has been admitted to the Florida Bar as well.
Charna’s passions for the law and advancing diversity in the legal
profession spurred her in 2010 to leave “BigLaw” to pursue a new model
of a female-owned firm committed to promoting the core values of the
profession. Inspired by a truly blind Lady Justice, this spirited
boutique is focused on complex commercial litigation and the relentless
resolution of client problems.
