Pro Se and Pro Se "Plus" Divorce Clinics
The CMBA's Family Law Section has adopted the Pro Se Divorce Clinic, a program that serves individuals referred from the Cleveland Homeless Legal Assistance Program (CHLAP) and from The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. Clinics are held monthly, serving 30-40 indigent individuals who are seeking a simple divorce and who have no minor children or assets, through the help of volunteer family law and Legal Aid attorneys who guide attendees through the process and paperwork without committing to any further representation. Pro Se Divorce Clinics are held monthly at the Cleveland Law Library in the Cuyahoga County Courthouse, so participants may attend a clinic and file in the same day.
Pro Se "Plus" guides participants through a simple divorce where there are minor children from the marriage but where support and custody are not in dispute. Plus clinics are held the same day as regular clinics, but every other month.
Volunteers can serve by attending clinics or by completing paperwork for Pro Se "Plus" prior to the clinics on their own schedule.
The Pro Se and Pro Se "Plus" Divorce Clinics are programs of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, with funding support provided by the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation.
