2020-2021 Foundation President: Carter E. Strang
Carter is a partner with Tucker Ellis LLP where he created and coordinates the firm’s award-winning pipeline diversity and inclusion program. As CMBA president (’12-’13) he launched the Louis Stokes Scholars program, the Medical/Legal Summit, the Task Force on Civility & Professionalism, and created the position of CMBA VP of Diversity & Inclusion.
A 3Rs volunteer since its inception, Carter is past 3Rs Committee chair and primary author of the 3Rs curriculum. He has helped coach Cleveland Early College High School to six Cleveland Mock Trial Championships. Carter created the CMBA Green Initiative, is a CMBF Fellow, and a recipient of the CMBA Justice for All Award.
He is a Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Leader-in-Residence and member of its Hall of Fame. Carter is board chair of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, the Center for Community Solutions, and the Kent State Honors College. He is also vice president of the Shaker Schools Foundation.
Carter received his B.S. and M.Ed. from Kent State University where he played football and ice hockey and was a member of its Honors College. A former Shaker Hts. High School teacher and coach, Carter worked his way through Cleveland-Marshall College of Law attending evening classes.
Carter and his wife Deedra are the proud parents of five sons (three of whom are local attorneys) and have three grandchildren.
