Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association

The CMBA is a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to serving the needs of legal professionals in Greater Cleveland. A voluntary membership organization, our members include attorneys and judges, law students, paralegals, and other business professionals. Together, we serve as the collective voice of our legal profession, both bench and bar. The CMBA has an operating budget of approximately $3 million and is home to more than 5,300 members.

In March 2008, the Cleveland Bar and Cuyahoga County Bar Association combined more than 135 years of rich history to create the unified Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association with a primary reach of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. As a result, the CMBA serves the largest legal community in Ohio. A center for legal professionalism in the region, it promotes the highest ethical and professional standards while leveraging the talent and generosity of our members to serve the Greater Cleveland community with lauded pro bono and community service programs focusing on youth & workforce development, access to justice, and nonprofit & artistic communities.

Comments Requested on Proposed Correction to Code of Regulations and Notice of All-Member Meeting on Feb. 10, 2020

The CMBA’s Governance Committee is recommending a correction to the CMBA Code of Regulations that went into effect on May 18, 2018.  The current Code requires that the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer must be attorneys.  However, very few attorneys have the kind of financial background that people in these positions really should have.  This mandate was a holdover from the original CMBA bylaws that were created ten years ago when the Cleveland Bar Association and Cuyahoga County Bar Association merged and it should be corrected.  Click here to view the proposed correction to the Code of Regulations and submit any comments to Heather Zirke at hzirke@clemetrobar.org by January 20, 2020.  A summary of all comments will be shared with the Board of Directors.  All CMBA members are invited and encouraged to attend a meeting on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at the CMBA Conference Center to vote on the proposed correction to the Code.
