11 High School Teams Advance to the Ohio Mock Trial Cuyahoga Regional Competition
CLEVELAND – February 5, 2010 –The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association announced today that 11 high school mock trial teams have advanced from today’s Cuyahoga District Competition to the Ohio Mock Trial Cuyahoga Regional Competition. (Some photos are available here.)
Hundreds of students participated in the 27th Annual Ohio Mock Trial Cuyahoga District Competition today at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland. This year’s fictional case asked whether a school may restrict students’ off-campus online speech without violating their First Amendment rights. Each team presented both sides of the case in two trials today where students played the roles of attorneys, witnesses and bailiffs. The teams were judged by volunteer judicial panelists. The teams to win both of their cases advanced.
The advancing high school teams are: Beaumont; Brecksville-Broadview Heights’ Team Black; North Olmsted’s Team Orange; Orange’s Team Gold; Regina; Shaw’s Team Cardinals and Team Cardinals Too; Solon’s Team C. Thomas, Team J. Roberts and Team S. Sotomayor; and Trinity Team Blue.
These teams will compete in the Ohio Mock Trial Cuyahoga Regional Competition on February 26, 2010, in downtown Cleveland.
