CMBA continues to host the regular meetings of the Cuyahoga County Covid-19 Bench-Bar Task Force, led by Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Administrative and Presiding Judge Brendan Sheehan. Among other things, Judge Sheehan reported that because of on-going concerns with COVID-19, jury trials will not restart until April 26, 2021. Additional reports included:

  • Cuyahoga County Chief of Public Safety Bob Coury shared that the current County jail population has increased from 1,329 one month ago to 1,385 today. Municipal Courts continue applying population reduction measures, and credit was given to Cleveland’s Bail Project for providing additional bail funds to keep the jail population down. Covid-19 cases in the jail are declining sharply, with only six cases currently active. That’s down from 46 last month, and way down from a high of 295 on December 17th.
  • 8th District Court of Appeals Administrative Judge Mary J. Boyle reported that as of this week, the Court's newest addition, Judge Emanuella Groves, began hearing cases.
  • Shaker Heights Municipal Judge K.J. Montgomery reported her court will not resume jury trials until sometime in May.
