Laura Watling Jones

Laura Jones has been employed with the Federal Public Defender’s Office for 33 years (1983 to 1986 and 1991 to present). She began her career as a legal secretary in 1983 to the then Federal Public Defender, Edward Marek. This position evolved to the Administrative Officer, which is the position that Laura has held since 1994.
Her responsibilities include such things as human resources and staff support for the 42 employees of the office, serving as hiring manager and coordinator for a growing staff, maintaining accounting for budgets, maintaining supply chain and operational support, regulatory and standards of conduct compliance and a myriad of additional tasks.
She has also been a member of several working groups that served the Federal Defender program on a national level including Performance Management, Financial Management Training Subgroup, Administration and Management, Management Assessment Program and conducted Internal Controls Evaluations.
Off-duty, Laura is an accomplished endurance athlete. She qualified for and ran the 2005 Boston Marathon and also qualified for in 2020. She has run the 2017 and 2019 NYC Marathon (and eight others). In 2017, Laura won an age group championship for a 50K trail race at Salt Fork State Park.
Laura is the proud mother of three. Sarah is a BSN at Riverside Hospital in Columbus; Dominick passed away in 2009; and Zachary is a Customer Success Specialist at On-Shift Inc. in Cleveland.
