Magistrate Clifford has spent most of his life working in public service. He has had positions as a lifeguard, water safety instructor, postal clerk, Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, assigned counsel, and volunteer for numerous non-profits.
He began working with the Cleveland Municipal Court Housing Division as a referee in 1986 and currently serves the General Division as Chief Magistrate. He has been a devoted employee for 34 years, during which time he has demonstrated loyalty, dedication, and faithful service to the court and those it serves.
Magistrate Clifford has served as chair of the Cuyahoga County Bar Association Municipal Court Committee, Interim Clerk of the Cleveland Municipal Court, Municipal Court Practice Chair for the Ohio Association of Magistrates, and president of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association. He currently serves on the faculty of the Ohio Judicial College and is a member of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Hall of Fame.
Magistrate Clifford and his wife of 27 years, Karen, have two adult children, David (married to Ruth Ramos) and Tia. He is the proud grandfather of three grandsons, Emanuel, Gabriel, and Elijah. Magistrate Clifford’s bucket list includes playing a round of golf on all of the Greater Cleveland area courses.
