Women in Law Section Meeting

Join the Women in Law Section for their Tuesday, November 5 meeting from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the CMBA Office.

Please note: this meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, not the usual Wednesday.

Our special guest will be Randi Ostry, who is one of the most motivational, inspirational, speakers I have ever met - who also happens to be a successful lawyer. Currently, Ostry is the Managing Attorney for the Ohio Attorney General's Cleveland Regional Office. She has devoted her career to serving the people of Ohio in many varied capacities. Ostry's professional roots are in the judiciary and the prosecutor's office. She served as law clerk to the late Judge John T. Patton of the Eighth District Court of Appeals and as an assistant county prosecuting attorney, first for the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones, then Bill Mason in Cuyahoga County and a brief stint for Charles Coulson in Lake County as Supervisor of the Appellate Unit. Her work supported federal, state, county, and city law enforcement officials in criminal investigations, including the Sheriff's Office, ATF, the Caribbean Drug Task Force, the Secret Service, and numerous police departments. Because of her strong constitutional law background, law enforcement relied upon her to provide Fourth Amendment counsel in search and seizure issues. Ostry has argued cases at all levels of the courts including death penalty litigation on motion up to the United States Supreme Court. The Ohio Supreme Court Justices took note of Ostry's successful record in criminal appellate litigation and appointed her Commissioner of the Court of Claims in 2005. For six years, she adjudicated claims under the Compensation Act and participated in national conferences learning about responses to, and rehabilitation efforts in, other states' notorious school massacres like Virginia Tech. Linking up with a national caring and committed legal community gave her more resources preparing, perhaps foreshadowing, her work to come in the Chardon high school shootings-Ohio's first and hopefully last school massacre.

Ostry delivers a positive message that will resonate with women young and old of achieving your goals and taking care of yourself.
