CMBA Brings “Lawyers Without Rights” to Cleveland
The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association (CMBA) will use the weeks surrounding Law Day to remind the public of the role lawyers play in defending society from the loss of personal liberties when it brings “Lawyers Without Rights” to Cleveland in April. The exhibit, produced by the German Federal Bar and hosted by Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University, opens April 20. It is the first time the exhibit will be shown in Ohio. The exhibit is free to the public.
”Lawyers Without Rights” tells a series of stories about the Nazi treatment of a huge percentage of German lawyers – those who were Jewish. Its message will resonate with all who understand and appreciate the concepts and ideals of a just rule of law. The 22-panel display provides a historic commentary and present-day reminder of the dangers that exist when the law is unjustly applied.
The timing of the exhibit overlaps with the national celebration of Law Day on May 1, click to read a Presidential Proclamation. Established in 1958, Law Day focuses on educating the public on the critical role law plays in society. The theme for Law Day 2012 is “No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom.” Click here to read the full press release.
In connection with the exhibit, the CMBA will be holding a number of events, including continuing legal education programs and a private reception. See the sidebar on the right for more details.
