Hot Talks - Talking Immigration

The CMBA’s mission begins with five simple words: “To promote the rule of law.” To believe in the rule of law means that we believe all people and all institutions are subject to and accountable to the laws of our land. It also means that we believe all laws must be both fairly applied and fairly enforced.  We stand behind our mission with action.

One way we strive to fulfill our mission is by creating opportunities for the open, civil exchange of ideas and viewpoints across a vast array of subjects – both for our members and the community at large.

Starting with our February 14 lunch-time event, the CMBA will host a series of Hot Talks -- interactive discussions that will feature a variety of speakers who can offer expertise on particular topics, as well as a broad spectrum of viewpoints -- on the second Tuesday of every month. The discussions will be free (yes, FREE), informal conversations that will give our members and the public alike a chance to learn more about newly announced policies and other issues of importance.

Bar Foundation Impact Report

Our Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation invites you to view its 2015-2016 Impact Report “Opening Doors, Changing Lives”. The report shares how the support of donors, sponsors and volunteers helped the Bar Foundation and Association touch the lives of thousands of people in northeast Ohio through our “Lawyers Giving Back” programs last year. Our programs opened many doors for those seeking access to justice, information and resources about their rights and responsibilities, knowledge about the law and legal careers.

The Bar Foundation funds outreach programs that are organized primarily under the Justice For All and Diversity & Inclusion umbrellas of the CMBA. These wide-ranging and innovative programs currently include: The 3Rs – Rights, Responsibilities, Realities; Cleveland Homeless Legal Assistance Program; Cleveland Mock Trial and Ohio Mock Trial Competitions; Pro Se Divorce Clinics; Reach Out Pro Bono for Nonprofits; Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts; Law Day; Louis Stokes Scholars Program; and Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Legal Academy. Were You at the Rock Party?

On Saturday February 11, our Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation hosted its signature fundraiser, Rock the Foundation 12, at the Music Box Supper Club. What a night! With dynamite food, packed dance floor for Cleveland's own Nitebridge, amazing sounds of Nate Jones, stellar prizes and much more, it was a night to remember.

The CMBF presented Beth E. Mooney, CEO and Chairman of KeyCorp, with the Richard W. Pogue Award for Excellence in Community Leadership & Engagement during the VIP Reception, which included live jazz entertainment from Transportation Boulevard

Rock the Foundation benefits the Lawyers Giving Bank community and pro bono legal service programs of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. These programs promote equal access to justice, diversity and inclusion, law-related education and community service provided by members of our legal community - all of which are critical to strengthening the fabric of our community.

Ohio Mock Trial

The CMBA is proud to host the first two stages of the Ohio Mock Trial Competition in Cuyahoga County again for teams across Northeast Ohio.  District trials were held on January 20, and Regional trials will be February 10, 2017 for advancing teams. Each year volunteer judges and attorneys serve as competition judicial panelists. At this done-in-a-day volunteer opportunity, volunteers have the chance to observe the region's finest budding legal minds in an exciting afternoon of competition. In the 2017 competition, students will consider a case hypothetical involving defamation of a public official by a news station.  Volunteer today as a judicial panelist - click here!
